Where to Eat in Llandudno, Cape Town — An Honest Guide for Beach-House Guests
You have rented a house above one of the most beautiful beaches in Cape Town. Then someone asks where dinner is. Here is the honest answer, and three ways to eat well anyway.
Nowhere in Llandudno itself. It is a purely residential enclave with no restaurants, no cafés and no corner shop. The nearest places to eat are about fifteen minutes away, in Hout Bay or Camps Bay, over the hill and on roads that nobody enjoys driving after a long dinner. from R850 pp per person · Min invoice R3,900.
The short answer
Nowhere in Llandudno itself. It is a purely residential enclave with no restaurants, no cafés and no corner shop. The nearest places to eat are about fifteen minutes away, in Hout Bay or Camps Bay, over the hill and on roads that nobody enjoys driving after a long dinner.
That is exactly why people rent here, and it leaves you three options: drive out, cook for yourselves, or bring the restaurant to the house. Our private chef in Hout Bay and Llandudno service covers the third, and both areas sit in Zone 1, so there is no travel charge on the quote.

Option one: drive out to Hout Bay or Camps Bay
Both neighbours have plenty of places to eat, and a meal out is part of a good week. Hout Bay is a working fishing harbour with a weekend market, and Camps Bay has its beachfront strip. The catch is the journey: every meal out means a drive over the hill, a designated driver, and the same drive back in the dark.
Lunch is the easier meal to take out. The roads are in daylight, the market and harbour are at their liveliest, and you are home for sunset. Groups staying in the valley often pair a Hout Bay market morning with a dinner at the house the same evening, so the produce they saw at lunch turns up at dinner.
Option two: self-cater, and plan the shop
Plenty of guests cook for themselves, and the beach houses are built for long tables. With no shop in the enclave, the trick is planning, because every forgotten ingredient is a drive over the hill.
Included
- Shop before you arrive, not after: plan the first two or three days of meals and buy everything on the way in.
- Check the kitchen and the braai on arrival: holiday-house kitchens vary, and some are better equipped for sundowners than for cooking.
- Plan one braai night: it is the easiest way to feed a group well with very little washing-up.
Quoted separately
- Keep a back-up dinner in the freezer for the evening nobody wants to cook or drive.
- Know when the shops are open in Hout Bay, and take a list every time anyone goes.
Option three: a chef at the house
In Llandudno, in-villa dining is not the premium option; for most evenings it is the practical one. A chef shops on the morning of your dinner, comes over Constantia Nek or around Chapman's Peak with everything needed, cooks in your kitchen, serves at your table and leaves the kitchen clean. Nobody drives, and the evening ends when you decide it does.
Beach-house kitchens get scouted before the menu is locked, often from a few photos on WhatsApp, and induction backup comes as standard. We time the load-in around the pass, check Chapman's Peak closures against your date, and usually arrive while the house is still down at the beach. Our Atlantic Seaboard sunset dinner guide covers timing the meal to the light along this coast.
What to eat: the Hout Bay larder
Llandudno's nearest harbour shapes the menu. Snoek and yellowtail run in summer, the winter snoek run follows, and when the season and licences align we buy from licensed local fishers. Snoek on the braai with an apricot glaze is the harbour's own dish and one of the best things to eat on a beach-house deck.
West Coast rock lobster, kreef, appears only in its gazetted season and only from licensed commercial suppliers; recreational catch may not be sold, and we follow that to the letter. For a seafood-led evening, the five-course Cape seafood journey is from R1,350 pp with a minimum of four guests, built around whatever is genuinely in season that week.
A week in Llandudno, mixed sensibly
You do not need a chef every night. A mix many groups enjoy, with our published from-prices before groceries at cost:
- 01Arrival night: a private chef dinner at the house, from R850 pp for ten or more guests or from R1,150 pp for three to six (R3,900 minimum invoice).
- 02A market day: lunch out in Hout Bay, then an easy self-catered supper.
- 03Braai night: a chef-run gourmet braai on wood, from R650 pp with a minimum of six guests and a R5,500 minimum invoice.
- 04The seafood night: the Cape seafood journey from R1,350 pp, minimum four.
- 05If you want more nights covered: a villa chef dinner-service day is from R5,950, a full day from R6,900, and the 7-day villa bundle from R38,500. If you stock the house yourself, the chef can cook from your fridge and the day rate is unchanged.
