The short answer

Over Christmas and New Year our standard villa chef day rates apply: from R4,250 for a single-meal day (breakfast or lunch), R5,950 for a dinner-service day and R6,900 for a full three-meal day, with groceries billed at cost. On public holidays the day rate carries a 1.5× multiplier, and on 25 December, 31 December and 1 January it carries 2×. Each multiplier is a named line on your quote.

Our festive season villa chef page covers the super-peak window, 26 December to 7 January, and the menus that go with it. This guide does the arithmetic, so you can see what a staffed festive stay costs before you ask for a quote.

A worked ten-day stay, 26 December to 4 January

A family in a Zone 1 villa, so travel is included. Not every day is staffed: the pattern covers arrival, the big nights and the mornings after, and leaves room for restaurant nights and beach days.

Where the rest of the money goes

The multipliers apply to the day rates, and groceries are billed at cost with receipts, so the food line is what the shopping actually cost. December shops start early because fishmongers and markets sell out fast, and the pre-arrival consult agrees the menus before you land, so the grocery estimate on the quote is a sensible guide.

Larger tables add support staff from the rate card: a chef assistant from R1,750 per meal, or a waiter from R195 an hour on a four-hour minimum. If your villa is in Zone 3, Franschhoek and beyond, a finish after 22:00 needs staff accommodation, quoted as its own line. That matters most on New Year's Eve; our guide to a private chef for New Year's Eve in Cape Town covers that night in detail.

Ways to keep the festive bill sensible

None of these lower the quality of the cooking. They change which days you staff and how.

Included

  • Staff the nights the whole group is home, not every meal of the fortnight.
  • On the 2× days, book the meal that matters, often Christmas lunch or New Year's Eve dinner, not a full day.
  • Use single-meal days for long lunches and departure breakfasts.

Quoted separately

  • Choose a Zone 1 villa if you can: travel is included and late finishes need no accommodation line.
  • Look at the shoulders: the week before Christmas and the days after 7 January run at standard rates with standard terms.
  • Ask about the 7-day bundle for a fully staffed week; over the super-peak it carries the multipliers, shown on the quote.

The terms that come with the dates

Super-peak terms are stricter than the rest of the year. Deposits for 26 December to 7 January are non-refundable, date changes inside the window are not possible once confirmed, and festive quotes are valid for 48 hours because capacity is fixed. All of this is written on the quote before you pay, and the full ladder is on our booking protection page.

Timing matters too. Festive weeks typically commit by early spring, and the window is usually fully allocated by November. If you are reading this in late October with dates still open, message us now: we will tell you straight away what is still free, and offer shoulder dates if the peak is gone.

Planning the menus

A Cape Christmas is a summer one: whole roasted linefish, glazed gammon, cold spreads on Boxing Day and a braai on New Year's Day. Our guide to Christmas lunch at home in Cape Town covers the table itself, and the villa chef page explains how day rates, groceries and the same-chef continuity work across a long stay.

Send your dates, villa area, headcount and which days you want staffed on WhatsApp. We reply within the hour, 08:00–20:00 SAST, and the itemised quote shows every multiplier as its own line.
